Openers pile up 221 runs to give an easy League win

Rhône CC vs Geneva CC, Premier League, Parilly, 17 June 2018

Geneva Cricket Club 407 for 8 in 36 overs (Idrees 163, Ankit 80, Khurram 52, Charles 3-39) beat Rhône Cricket Club 233 all out in 28.4 overs (Abhishek 102, Bhavesh 40, Afif 3-64) by 174 runs

Easy victory for Geneva CC as opening batsmen Idrees (a massive 163 off 66 balls, 6 fours and 21 sixes hit all around the park!) and Ankit (elegant and technical 80 off 70, 9 fours and 6 sixes) put up a humongous partnership stand of 221 runs in 18 overs (is that a record?). Vice-Captain Khurram was the only other batter to give another show with a composed half-century in 43 balls. As Rhône’s over rate was too slow, umpires decided to close the innings after 36 overs completed and 366 runs on the scoreboard. 41 runs were added to the total as per Cricket Switzerland’s rules, giving Rhône a tough target of 408 runs to chase.

Rhône’s innings started well too but the required run rate was to steep to climb. Openers Bhavesh and John scored 40 and 30 respectively while Abhishek survived throughout most the innings and scored a bold century. The game could have finished earlier, if Geneva’s players did not drop so many catches. Rhône managed to reach a decent score of 233 runs, giving the visitors a comfortable 174-run victory.
