Geneva CC vs GICC, Premier League, Bout-du-Monde, 22 July 2018
Geneva Cricket Club 135 for 5 in 27.5 overs (Idrees 38, Balihar 2-21) beat Geneva International Cricket Club 133 all out in 28.2 overs (Ashwin 4-9) by 5 wickets
Geneva CC takes the top spot of the Western Division of the Cricket Switzerland Premier League after comfortably defeating GICC by 5 wickets. The Genevan cricket powerhouse is surfing on a winning streak of six games out of six in the League, with one match left to hopefully complete a full circle of victories. Grabbing the first position in the Western Division means a home game in the quarter-finals against the fourth-placed team of the Eastern Division, that is, a good opportunity to capitalise on and reach higher skies.
Prior to the match against GICC, Geneva beat some of the strongest teams of the season. On 8 July, Geneva went to Berne and won by 79 runs on a tough wicket thanks to a terrific bowling and fielding performance by the whole team, in particular Ankit who took a precious five-for (5 for 18 in 5 overs). The following week, Cossonay CC were defeated by a quite similar margin of 82 runs in a rain-affected match. Fifties by Ankit (54 off 56 balls) and Kashif (68 off… 21 balls!) as well as some very tight bowling (2 for 17 in 5 overs) by the latter took the best out of the hosts.
