Frail batting gives first loss in the Pickwick T20 Cup

Geneva CC vs Berne CC, Pickwick T20 Cup, Bout-du-Monde, 6 May 2018

Berne Cricket Club 156 for 6 in 20 overs (Lalit 52, Aseem 35) beat Geneva Cricket Club 118 all out in 18.5 overs (Aneesh 3-16) by 38 runs

Genevan players lost their first Pickwick T20 Cup game of the season with only themselves to blame. Highlight of the first innings was the batting performance of the top order with great partnerships between Lalit and Tissa, followed by the former and Aseem. Geneva’s bowling efforts were only rewarded after a short drinks break at the tenth over, but numerous missed catches tainted such efforts. Geneva had to chase a very decent target of 157 to win. Nothing impossible at the Bout-du-Monde, but the whole batting lineup acted rather irresponsibly. Abundant extras gave Geneva CC the edge in the beginning of the second innings. Extras do not win matches though, and none of the hosts managed to score more than 20 runs.

Geneva CC started the season on the right foot and this loss is a splash of icy water on the face of the players, nonetheless a good reality check! Many more games are to come and Geneva need to maintain a great fighting spirit in order to have a chance to qualify for the semifinals of the main Swiss T20 tournament.
