Cossonay CC vs Geneva CC, friendly 40-over match at En Marche, Cossonay, 20 May 2018
Geneva Cricket Club 243 all out in 39.2 overs (Anser 44*, Idrees 36, Thileepan 3-34, Ruwan 3-42) beat Cossonay Cricket Club 167 all out in 36.2 overs (Zahid 3-19) by 76 runs
Geneva CC went on Sunday to the beautiful ground of Cossonay to play a fun friendly 40-over game against the locals. The match was an opportunity for Vikram to play his debut and to welcome back returnees Yash and Saqib. Cossonay won the toss and elected to field. Aside from an explosive short-lived cameo from Zahid (24 in 9 balls) and a skillful performance from Anser (44 not out in 30 balls), most Geneva batsmen were not assertive enough. On the Cossonay side, Ruwan was undoubtedly the most dangerous bowler and was well supported by his teammates, in particular spinners Bisht and Thileepan. Geneva stacked up 243 runs in 39 overs, leaving Cossonay an uneasy score to chase for the En Marche ground.
In the second innings, Geneva CC displayed some varied and impactful bowling skills, which basically allowed to dismiss slowly but surely all of Cossonay’s batsmen. A record amount of extras were also conceded (more than a third of total runs!) and the fielding was a tad sloppy on a few occasions. Still, Geneva CC won by 76 runs with 22 balls remaining. A good match to prep up for the official matches to come!
